Multinational corporations Dell Technologies and TechTarget both welcomed in 15-40 Connection for panel presentations with cancer survivors as over 200 employees from the two companies learned the 3 Steps Detect education to help them become empowered patients and be to able detect cancer early.

On June 14, out at the Dell campus in Franklin, Mass., 15-40 Connection education and outreach manager Alicia Donovan led a panel with cancer survivors Ashley Emerson-Gilbert and Zack Coggins as they discussed how 3 Steps Detect related to their personal experiences. The presentation was hosted by Dell ‎Vice President of Global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Mike Riley and attended by 130 employees.

Ashley, who was diagnosed with leukemia in her senior year of high school, talked about the importance of using the 2-week rule to know when to visit your doctor when you’re experiencing subtle but persistent health changes. She also talked about how she mistook some of her symptoms — fatigue and headaches — as simply part of a busy, active life.

Zack shared how he was able to advocate for himself with his campus nurse practitioner in college to get an early diagnosis of testicular cancer. Zack communicated all his symptoms with the nurse practitioner and made sure to come back a week later when his health didn’t improve.

Nine days later, 15-40 Connection visited TechTarget in Newton, Mass., for a presentation to 75 employees, including company CEO Mike Cotoia, as Alicia taught 3 Steps Detect and led another panel discussion with brain cancer survivor Dave McGrath and 15-40 Connection Vice President of Engagement Kelly Fattman.

Dave talked about how a previous experience with Crohn’s disease when he was younger taught him to see his doctor immediately when he began having headaches and blurred vision.

Meanwhile, Kelly, who was previously diagnosed with a benign brain tumor, shared the importance of believing that you know your body best. She stuck to her story even when several doctors said her symptoms didn’t add up, and her persistence eventually led to the correct diagnosis.

Both audiences found the 2-week rule memorable, as Dell showed a 97% retention rate and TechTarget 98% retention when tested at the end of the presentation. They each showed a 78% or higher retention of the full 3 Steps Detect.
