Just seven years after recommending that women have mammograms every one to two years starting at age 40, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force changed its recommendation.
Yet after carefully reviewing the data and new recommendations, the world's leading breast cancer advocacy organization noted there is no debate that mammography reduces the risk of dying from breast cancer...."extensive scientific evidence demonstrates that mammography reduces breast cancer mortality both among women aged 50 and older, as well as among women aged 40 to 49."
