The 15-40 Connection's mission is to create awareness that cancer is the #1 disease related cause of death among 15 to 40-year-olds and promote early detection through awareness, advocacy and action. Nearly 70,000 Americans aged 15-40 are diagnosed with cancer every year and their survival rate has barely changed since 1975.
Unfortunately, most cancers in young adults are not preventable, but they can be detected earlier when they are easier to treat.
"The key to early cancer detection is going to the doctor regularly for physical exams, being aware of any negative change in your body and taking action immediately," said Jim Coghlin, Sr., founder of the 15-40 Connection. "It's not important that every doctor look like Lisa Edelstein or Taye Diggs, but it is important that young adults take a more active role in advocating for their health and that doctors pay close attention to the early warning signs of cancer in the 15-40 age group."
